Meet Dr. Smith
There’s a reason Dr. Brent J. Smith, MD, FACS, is Denver’s most trusted facial plastic surgeon. He’s a pioneer who goes the extra mile to give every client natural looking results. It’s something that Dr. Smith learned in childhood and has applied to all aspects of life—including an intentional approach to every surgery he’s performed over the last 30 years.
“I’m a perfectionist,” Dr. Smith says. “When I mowed lawns, I was extra careful because I wanted the lines in the grass to be perfect. The same was true when I meticulously restored a Model A Ford in college. And when it comes to something as important as facial plastic surgery, I’m even more passionate about perfection.”
A legendary pathway to private practice
To perfect his craft—plastic surgery with a singular focus on the face—Dr. Smith earned more than a medical degree following undergrad at Stanford. He performed a high-profile ENT residency at University of Cincinnati, which had a reputation for excellence in the field, followed by a fellowship in facial plastic surgery with one of the country’s most prestigious sub-specialists.
“That training was invaluable because it taught me procedures, as well as how to run a business and address patients’ needs and desires,” he says. “You are successful when the most important person is the patient. It’s not about what I want. I have to listen and hear them and see what they see.”
Dr. Smith was also one of the first 50 in the country to be certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, as well as the American Board of Otolaryngology for head and neck surgery.
Why sub-specialization in the face?
“I never wanted to be a jack of all trades and master of none,” he says. “That means all of our instruments are specifically for the face. Our staff is focused only on the face. And the face is what I love. Isn’t it amazing that everyone can have two eyes, a nose, and a mouth, yet we all look so different when they’re are not that many variables?”
It’s Dr. Smith’s attention to detail, steady focus on patients, and ability to stay at the forefront of technology and innovations that have created one of Colorado’s top facial plastic surgery practices. “You don’t want to be the first—or last—to try something, but we’ve been out there as the lead dog for many techniques and procedures over the years,” he says.
A beautiful legacy continues
But what Dr. Smith may be most remembered for is his unparalleled bedside manner, something untouchable and driven by a deep inner faith.
“I believe true beauty comes from within. However, there are times when our perception of our physical appearance does not match the inner image we have of ourselves,” he says. “My goal is to help people find harmony. Facial plastic surgery allows us to bring the physical image in sync with the inner image and that is so satisfying.”
Meet Dr. Bovenzi
Dr. Bovenzi is board certified in otolaryngology (head and neck surgery) and fellowship trained specifically in facial plastic surgery. This sub-specialization is his guiding force in ensuring every patient achieves the best, most natural-looking results.
But Dr. Bovenzi doesn’t just rely on his past; he’s always looking forward. “What I’ve learned from all of this is how to strike a balance: to not be stuck in our ways, to stay at the forefront of the field, and to make the best decisions for—and with—our patients,” he says.
To that end, Dr. Bovenzi is well known for writing a meta-analysis on a cutting-edge medication now used during facelift surgery. “This substance led to far less bleeding, bruising, and swelling. I believed in it, researched it and now it’s considered the standard of care,” he says.
A natural, down-to-earth approach
In addition to checking all the professional boxes, Dr. Bovenzi has the compassion and down-to-earth approachability that has driven patients to our practice for the past 35 years. “Everyone is different, and I love how our field can have a profound impact on individuality,” he says. “It’s a lot of figuring out what your goals are and what’s really bothering you, in your terms. By understanding where people are coming from, I can translate that to what we can do to help.”
And sometimes that doesn’t require surgery. “To give people the quality care they deserve, sometimes we steer them to a non-surgical procedure,” he says. “It’s important to counsel people on the right timing for surgery, whether they can get a good result with filler and how we will never make them look overdone.” Dr. Bovenzi’s vast anatomy experience means even safer injectable care. “Remember, I know where all those blood vessels are—and how nerves work,” he says.
Dr. Bovenzi is here to stay. “I’m a mountain person and will practice in Colorado throughout my career. Like Dr. Smith, I want to keep people looking natural, like they’ve never had work done,” he says. “This practice has stood the test of time, and I want to keep providing a welcoming atmosphere where patients are excited for their appointments and their results.”
Just as Denver plastic surgeons Dr. Brent J. Smith and Dr. Cory D Bovenzi are known for their bedside manner, combining approachability, warmth and humbleness with unmatched medical expertise, so too are the staff members they have chosen to complement their practice. Focused on developing close and lasting relationships with patients, our team will feel like family—even during a short-term skincare procedure.
