Spider veins or telangiectasis are clusters of tiny blood vessels that develop close to the surface of your skin. They are red, blue, or purple and have the appearance of spider webs. CO2 laser is the most effective treatment for wrinkles. This laser can be titrated between a fractional (smaller) dose and an ablative (stronger) dose for individual needs.
When patients opt for the fractional CO2 laser treatment, we perform this as an initial series of 3 sessions spread out with 6-8 weeks between treatments. Afterwards, many patients choose to have a maintenance treatment every 6-12 months to maintain their results and prevent fine lines and brown spots from surfacing. These signs of sun damage can occur many years afterwards, and makes maintenance treatment a beneficial option. With the ablative CO2 laser treatment, only one session is needed for treatment as this higher dose can treat the deeper skin layers. This treatment is typically done under twilight anesthesia.
Both Botox and lasers are great treatment options for wrinkles. Botox is best to relax the muscles that create wrinkles in the forehead, glabella (11 lines), and crow’s feet areas. Laser treatments can treat wrinkles in all areas of the face, neck, and decolletage. However, without Botox treatments, wrinkles in the forehead, crows feet, and glabella areas are likely to recur or remain due to the muscle movements that etched them in there in the first place.
After a fractional CO2 laser resurfacing treatment, it takes about 3 to 5 days of social downtime when your skin will be pink and the old skin is flaking off. Often we have patients have a laser treatment on a Friday and they feel comfortable going back to work on Monday with just some slight pinkness that resembles getting a light sunburn.
The ablative CO2 laser is the best laser treatment for deep wrinkles. To treat deeper wrinkles you need the deeper layers of the skin to be treated which is best addressed with the ablative dose of a CO2 laser.
